First blog post, wow! If you've made your way here today, I just want to thank you for taking the time to visit my site. Please stay to read! I'd appreciate it.
I think I should introduce myself first and foremost. My name is Yasad Powell, I am 24 and a student of health, human performance, and exercise science. I have spent a lot of personal and academic time practicing and studying the many approaches to reach improved health, fitness, and human performance. During the pandemic in 2019-2021, I tried my hand at freelance personal training. Mainly meeting in parks for assessments and sessions or programming routines for people in the unusual circumstances we were all facing. While going through this period, I realized two things. I have a deep passion for this field of work, and many people milk this industry unjustly for profit. People just want to be healthy and meet their goals. There's no reason that guidance or advice should cost the amount it does from people who got certified within a few weeks.
That being said, I was a CPT (certified personal trainer) and my relationship with the program and that piece of paper was somewhere between love and hate. At first, I was happy to have taken that first step towards a career in a field I had been interested in since childhood. But it quickly became obvious to me that during the pandemic this was a field that became saturated with opportunists looking to capitalize off of a global health scare. And under the guidance of my certifiers community, I was encouraged to charge people extremely high prices for just programming alone. Sometimes upwards of $300 per month, as a coach with no experience. During this period, I took on my first few clients. About a day into programming, I realized this cert and the resources I had paid for were not going to be of any use to me. So I went back to the drawing board and drafted up personalized programs for my clients based on my prior studies and applications. From this, I saw a client's first success in meeting their personal goals and performance goals as they were prepping for military fitness testing. She was awesome and I was elated to see how far she came. In 2021 I took some time to think about my future in this field and realized I wanted to pursue further education. As my recertification date was drawing near, I knew I didn't want to give this company any more of my money. So I decided that I would just get my bachelors in a field that combines health sciences, exercise science, exercise physiology, and psychology. So I can provide a better service to those who request it, and so I can learn from the concepts of the best coaches to ever program for some of the greatest-performing athletes of all time. I currently have my associates. If you've read this far thank you!
